This year, Father’s Day is celebrated on the 4th of September. This day is a day to honour fatherhood and those father figures in our lives. Father’s Day often sees handmade cards, breakfast in bed, new tools, ties and tees, but the most meaningful gift is expressing you love and gratitude for them.
Just like Mother’s Day, there is a Christian connection to Father’s Day, as there are many fatherly figures within the Bible – Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, King David, Jesus’ stepfather Joseph, and of course, God the Father.
From each of these, we learn great lessons. Adam teaches us to take responsibility for our actions instead of blaming others. Noah teaches that even the most faithful have weaknesses and can fall into sin. Abraham teaches that our plans and purposes will be revealed to us over time, so have patience and obedience. Isaac teaches that parents should not show favouritism over their children Jacob teaches that God will work with our mistakes and bad decisions Moses teaches that with God, all things are possible King David teaches that self-examination is necessary Josephs teaches that mercy always wins and obedience is rewarded And God the Father teaches that he is constant, faithful and loving.
