On the 5th of October we celebrate World Teacher’s Day. Due to sometimes falling within the school holidays, schools may choose to celebrate this day on the last Friday in October. Without teachers, no one would learn how to read and write, complete math equations or write essays. We depend on teachers to perform basic everyday tasks and to extend our knowledge. As teachers mold future generations, it’s important to say, ‘Thank You!’.
World Teacher’s Day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO Recommendation, concerning the status of teachers. It sets standards regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment, employment and learning conditions. It aims to focus on appreciating, assessing and improving the educations of the world.
World Teacher’s day is important as it honours the teaching profession, highlights current issues affecting teachers and applauds process, but challenges stagnation.
Did you know that according to UNESCO, the world needs 69 MILLION teachers in order to achieve the goal of providing universal primary and secondary education by 2030?
