Queen Elizabeth II

QUEEN ELIZABETH

On the 8th of September 2022, the world lost one of the most influential leaders, the longest-reigning Monarch in British history, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Queen Elizabeth’s was a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is mourned most deeply in her passing. That promise of lifelong service I renew to you all today.” – His Majesty The King’s address to the Nation and the Commonwealth.

In 1936, at the age of 10, her uncle King Edward VIII abdicated, making her Father, King George VI, the King and putting her next in line to the throne. Becoming the Monarch one day, was unexpected to her and her family at the time of her birth and early childhood. In 1952, King George VI died, which immediately acceded Elizabeth to the throne, at the age of 25.

She had many hobbies and interests outside of her duties, including horses, dogs, life outdoors, walking, and dancing. She also had a very strong Christian Faith, with the role of ‘Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England’. She respected all faiths and saw them as a way of bringing all communities together. She was involved in faith-related charities such as the National Churches Trust, The Boys’ Brigade, and the YMCA.

“For me, the life of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose birth we celebrate today, is an inspiration and an anchor in my life. A role model of reconciliation and forgiveness, he stretched out his hands in love, acceptance, and healing. Christ’s example has taught me to seek to respect and value all people, of whatever faith or none.” – Queen Elizabeth II, 2014.

We give thanks for the life of Queen Elizabeth II. We reflect on the impact she made to the Royal Family, the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and the Christian Faith. We pray for the soul of her Majesty. We pray for her eternal rest. May God’s presence comfort her.

“If we all go forward together with an unwavering faith, a high courage, and a quiet heart, we shall be able to make of this ancient commonwealth, which we all love so dearly, an even grander thing – more free, more prosperous, more happy and a more powerful influence for the good in the world.” – Queen Elizabeth.
