Plenary 2020 – National Themes for Discernment

Plenary 2020

During the first stage of preparation for the Australian Plenary council, more than 222,000 people participated in listening and dialogue, resulting in 17,457 submissions. These voices have contributed data, which all Catholics are now being urged to consider together.

From all the data gathered in the preparation phase, six national themes for discernment have been inspired and now call all Catholics towards the future.

The second stage of preparation will now see the process of drawing on these themes in order to develop the agenda for the first session of the Plenary Council. Each theme is supported by a ‘snapshot report’ which provides information such as:

  • Topics / what did people talk about?
  • Responses to particular questions
  • Questions that Catholics have about the future of Australia
  • Stories of faith

The snapshot reports will be released gradually.
