Season of Creation

IMAGE-NAME

Today begins Pope Francis’ Season of Creation, which will continue until October 4th. This time invites everyone to see and acknowledge that we, as stewards of the earth, are interlocked with it, rather than separate from it. It is a time to be thankful for everything given and entrusted to us.

This year’s theme is Let Justice and Peace Flow. This theme and the logo created for the Season of Creation were inspired by Amos 5:24 – “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

As stated on seasonofcreation.org our prayers must call for justice not only for human beings but for all creation. In covenant with peace, we are called to repent of our ecological sins and to change our attitudes and actions.

Not only is this a time to appreciate the world we were given, but also to acknowledge the lack of respect often shown towards God’s creation, through pollution, exploitation, destruction, war, and other forms of blasphemy.

Use this Season of Creation to celebrate the world in which we live, and to commit to continually respecting it, by attending to its needs.

“We do not own our environment, but are part of it.” – Fr Andrew Hamilton SJ
