Transfiguration of the Lord

POPE FRANCIS QUOTE

The Transfiguration of Jesus is illustrated in the Bible, where he transfigures in radiant glory on the top of the mountain in front of Peter, James and John. This event, being one of the 5 major milestones of the life of Jesus, teaches us about the transformation we go through as one of his followers.

This Feast Day is important as it reflects on this Bible story which reveals the divinity of Christ.

DAILY READINGS

First Reading – Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 97:1-2, 5-6, 9

Second Reading – 2 Peter 1:16-19

Alleluia – Matthew 17:5c

Gospel – Luke 9:28b-36

The response in the Responsorial Psalm for this Feast Day is “The Lord is King, the Most High over all the Earth. ” This depicts the image of Jesus in Matthew 17:1-9, on top of the mountain when he transfigures in front of his Disciples. The heavens declared his justice, and everyone saw his glory.

While this took place, the disciples heard “This is my Son, the beloved, he enjoys my favour, listen to him.” This is still a constant reminder for us today. When in doubt, in troubles, during decision, anything – turn to God and trust in him. Pope Francis reminds us of this,

“Listen to Jesus and follow him. That’s the message of the Transfiguration.”
