Maximilian Kolbe was born Raymond Koble, on January 8th, 1894. He was born in Zdunska Wola in central Poland, and as a young boy had a deep spiritual experience that began to set the course for his life. In 1907, he joined the Conventual Franciscans, taking the name of Maximillian.

World Youth Day is the largest gathering of youth in the world, seeing thousands each time, and in past years, millions. Australia was fortunate enough to host WYD in Sydney, in 2008. Although its Catholic identity is clearly evident, WYD opens its doors to everyone, no matter how close to or distance from the Church they are.
Archaeologists Discover Old Testament History
Archaeologists have been working to reconstruct a site in Mosul, an Iraqi city, that was bulldozed as part of the extremists’ systematic destruction of cultural heritage by the Islamic State group fighters in 2016. This restoration project intends to turn this damaged site into an educational centre.
BBI National RE Symposium Highlights
On the 16th and 17th of June, Janita, Kim and Chloe from the Understanding Faith team attended the National RE Symposium at the International Conference Centre in Darling Harbour. This conference is organised by BBI-TAITE, The Australian Institute of Theological Education, with this year’s theme of ‘Scripture and RE: Teaching and Transformation’.
Feedback from UF Survey
At the start of the year, we sent out a survey to our subscribers about our resource. We’ve received all the results and have been going through the feedback, to draw out the most common responses, and to gain some insight where we can continue to improve our product. Understanding Faith is an educational ministry of St Agnes’ Parish, Port Macquarie, under the leadership of Parish Priest, Father Paul Gooley.
We are very proud of our unique multimedia resource, which links student content, Church teachings and Scripture, to interactive activities, video excerpts, radio broadcasts, music, newspaper articles, slideshows, and the internet – as well as pedagogically sound and contemporary teaching and learning activities.
